Clíodhna & Naoise's IronKids Race Report

Clíodhna Duggan's Race Report - IronKids Frankfurt

I had Cheerios for breakfast, breakfast for an athlete.

Mom did not pack my Fingal gear so I had to wear my mom’s Fingal Cycling top. I did a hack with a hair tie to help the top fit a bit better.

I went to registration with my Dad and it was very chaotic as they did not have the names in alphabetical order.

After figuring out how to put on my race No. ‘Cliodhna1’ we went for a pre-race snack of almond croissants.

My race was at 10:45 so I got to watch the younger kids do their races and went to the start line at 10:40 hrs.

At 10:40 we were called to the start line where there was lots of pushing and shoving for a good position. I waited at the back of the group while others were pushing through.

It was tricky because the countdown was in German, but fortunately I understand the word ‘GO’ so off I ran and made good progress working my way up to the front of the group.

I ran to the turning point at 750meters and then turned around to head back. The wind lifted my Fingal baseball cap off my head so I had to turn around and fetch it before sprinting to the finish line.

I was delighted to be the 3rd girl across the finish line and to receive a medal.

Favorite Thing – Receiving my medal.

Worst Thing  – Start Line.

Surprising Thing – The German call a drink of water and half a banana a treat!!

Point for Improvement – Wouldn’t wear a hat.

Naoise Duggan’s Race Report – IronKids Frankfurt

Fueled by chocolate muesli, I had lots of energy for my race.

I was so tired I forgot my runners and had to run in my sandals.

Dressed in moms running singlet (which she made me wear…) I made my way to registration with Dad.

Registration was chaos, too much waiting around.

When we got our numbers sorted we went to the Café for pre-race treats and a toilet stop (or two)

I was racing at 10:30 so went to the start line at 10:15 which was filled with little kids pushing through to the front.

In my race we had a false start and all got called back.

I ran as fast as I could in sandals, avoiding the other kids and parents and made my way round the 1km loop.

I was the 8th kid across the finish line and got a medal and really bad sparkling water (for a treat).

Then I watched my sisters race and clapped her back across the finish line.

Favorite Thing -Finishing and getting a Medal.

Worst Thing – Last 100 meters.

Surprising Thing – That I came 8th and that that sparkling water is considered a treat – I don’t like sparkling water.

Point for Improvement – Wear my runners in future.
