Athy Sprint Race Report

#

Athy 2024 The Sprint, It was a case of if at first don't succeed TRI again for me, I had hoped to do my first Tri in 2023 but both Tri's were cancelled due to weather conditions 😭 But that was certainly not the case in Athy this year. Car loaded up with bikes, gear and the recommended list of things to have from fellow club mates including sun cream πŸ‘Arriving in Athy it could be clearly seen nearly every Tri athlete and there mother had come to town 😱 the town was buzzing and so was my stomach 😡‍πŸ’« bike now racked and ready, marking my patch with a coloured towel πŸ˜‰ Got to the start and we lined 2 by 2 where it was great to chat with the fingal crew ready to take on the challenge of the day. Fingal were represented in all races, from Tri, Sprint, Olympic, and double Olympic. The queue edged closer to the water and thing next thing were in and off we went. Panic stations reality a 250 swim upstream battling reads, bodies, legs, arms and mirky water,  At the turn it was 500m back down stream under the bridge and out of the water, Thank god that part is over πŸ˜… the transition, With the tips from Coach Elena and the transition training coming into play, wet suit was off and onto the 🚴 the big wheel was turning  and I was rolling, a big shout from Antoinette and I was heading for T2, Now for Guy's the flying dismount πŸ™„ let's say it half worked  one shoe was on a cleat and the other ended up on the ground,πŸ˜‚ with one shoe in one hand and the bike in the other hand I was running along the blue carpet to get to the take me home running shoes and the 5k πŸƒ‍♂️ to the finish line. I was a man on mission get this over quick I am getting 😴 and starting to πŸ₯΅. Just like that it was done and dusted πŸ…first Triathlon completed. Many thanks to Yann, Guy, Olga, Elena, Catherine, Babara and the crew in Fingal TC,

Well, done to all the athletes today we all have our own goals and it’s great to see friendly faces and compare stories. It was a great event, great support. Suppose I will have to Tri again now, Dave
