It is fair to say that Fingal Junior Tri Club is undergoing a re-juvenation period. The beginning of 2017 saw the numbers of members dropping off and it was very hard to get numbers to the weekly sessions. This type of scenario is a familiar story with other clubs as children are also involved with GAA, Soccer etc. It was decided to move to a monthly 3 hour session where children would take part in all 3 disciplines at the national sports complex under the coaching guidance of Gary Crossan and Elena Maslova. BINGO! We have avoided as much as possible the time slots that lots of the other sports such as soccer, GAA and rugby take up and gone for Sunday's from 3-6pm. Kids love the session and parents are delighted with the safe environment especially for cycling. We do not restrict the attendance to Fingal Members and have worked alongside Belpark and Pulse tri clubs to ensure that we don't overlap the training sessions so that kids can potentially go to all sessions should they wish.
It has been a great success to date and we hope to continue this work into 2018.
Our Triathlon for Juniors was held on the 3rd of September and anyone who took part is not likey to ever forget it!! The conditions really couldn’t have been any worse for them, but they all battled through and completed it with smiles on their faces. Our race had to be changed to just a run due to the extreme weather conditions. We received so much positive feedback from kids and parents alike and what should have been a very dissppinting day turned into a very positive experience for all our competitors. It was still a tough event in that weather and they done great!
A special mention to our 6-7 and 8-9 year olds who we ran in 2 parts, again due to the conditions.
We also ran our now yearly summer camp which was a sell out. They ran, laughed, cycled, laughed and swam and laughed and then they raced and yes..... they laughed. Lots of fun while practising their sport.
Thanks to everyone who helped, coached, organised and supported our juniors throughout the year. The future is bright for Fingal Triathlon!!!
