Fingal Triathlon Club was set up in 2009 by a group of highly motivated people who wanted to get fit, have some variety in their training and meet like-minded people.

Throughout the year we organise junior and senior training sessions, skills sessions, social evenings, as well as our annual club Triathlon and Aquabike race in Skerries.

We also participate in races together throughout the year with an emphasis on fun while taking part as a club.

After trying triathlon for the first time in the Skerries Triathlon I was amazed with the attitude of all those from Fingal Triathlon Club helping, marshalling and organizing the race. They were so hugely supportive, encouraging and helpful that I decided to join the club the next year. From then on it been a wonderful journey to all different types of events. I certainly would not be where I am today if it hadn’t been for the club, from training sessions, to advise and friendships. The club and its members has it on offer in spades and everyone is always willing to offer help. I am looking forward to helping the club grow in the coming years

My favorite part about triathlon is how many elements there are to it, which also means there’s always something to improve on. I have two main bits of advice, especially for the younger athletes. First and most importantly, make sure you enjoy your sport, and, if not, find something that you do enjoy instead. The second bit of advice is to never let anything stop you. Triathlon is known for being mentally and physically challenging, and it can be difficult to stay positive if you’ve had a bad race or training session. However, if I let every bad race, training, or mishap get to me, I wouldn’t have even come close to where I am now. Everyone knows sport can be cruel at times but if you’re willing to stick it out, I can promise it’s incredibly rewarding.

I joined Fingal Triathlon Club in 2016 and I haven’t looked back since. Fingal Triathlon Club is a club oozing enthusiasm, camaraderie and caters for all abilities. In wanting to give back to the club I decided to join the committee later in 2016 and have been Training Coordinator ever since.

I have completed numerous sprints, standard and half Iron distance races picking up many AG podiums along the way including 70.3 National Champion in 2021. I also completed Barcelona Ironman in 2018.

I continue to enjoy the challenge that triathlon presents me and plan to continue giving it my all for many years to come

I began triathlon after I retired when my son and his wife asked me to join them in a relay triathlon in America! I joined Fingal Triathlon Club and it opened up a whole new world full of some wonderful people.

Training in a group where most share the same challenges to overcome is so different and inspires you to do things you never thought possible. It was clubmates and training buddies who told me I could do a triathlon on my own, but what a great feeling when I completed my first triathlon.

For some triathlon is competitive but for many more - like myself - the aim is to be a 'finisher not a flier'  and the big advantage I have is that when I finish most of my clubmates are ahead of me to cheer me in!

I was delighted when I saw Fingal's Triathlon Club's Train for a Tri program in 2021. I joined because I wanted to make friends outside of work and meet some new people.

I ran a virtual marathon last year and started cycling to work which I really enjoy. A triathlon is a new challenge for me. I'm really looking forward to improving my swimming skills and swimming in the sea.
